LOS ANGELES (April 22, 2014) – The Screen Actors Guild Foundation released the newest video to its children’s literacy website Storyline Online (www.storylineonline.net): Library Lion, written by Michelle Knudsen, illustrated by Kevin Hawkes and read by multifaceted actor and voiceover artist Mindy Sterling (iCarly, A.N.T. Farm, Legit, Austin Powers). Dedicated to inspiring a love of reading in children, Storyline Online streams imaginatively produced videos featuring celebrated actors reading award-winning children’s books.

“I love Library Lion. It’s a great story to get kids involved in books. For me, that is the most fun. I don’t want them to just sit and listen. I like when they participate, make different voices and sounds, and make the story come alive,” says Mindy Sterling, actor, voiceover artist, children’s literacy advocate and SAG Foundation supporter.

Portraying Principal Skidmore in Disney’s A.N.T Farm and Frau Farbissina in the Austin Powers films, Sterling’s work is known by both child and adult audiences alike. Her extensive experience with characters and voices makes Sterling the perfect addition to the SAG Foundation’s distinguished list of Storyline Online readers, including Annette Bening, Rita Moreno, Hector Elizondo, Betty White, James Earle Jones and more.

Storyline Online receives over 2.2 million views from over 210 countries worldwide every month. Each video includes supplemental curriculum developed by an early childhood literacy specialist that aims to strengthen comprehension, verbal and written skills for English-language learners.

On Monday, April 21, to celebrate the launch, Sterling performed a live reading of Library Lion for second and third grade students in the library at Crescent Heights Boulevard Elementary School.

In addition to Storyline Online, the SAG Foundation provides a way for professional performers to give back through its children’s literacy program BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools). Over 2200 performers volunteer on a weekly basis to read to more than 60,000 elementary students in public schools nationwide.
