The Screen Actors Guild Foundation of SAG-AFTRA, the leading actors’ union in the United States, will award an honorary prize to Colombian actress Sofia Vergara for her charitable contributions to the artistic community, the institution said in a press release.

Vergara will receive the Actors Inspiration Award, a new honor created to coincide with the 30th anniversary celebrations of this foundation, whose chief work is to provide assistance for actors in the union who have fallen on hard times.

The Colombian, who leaped to stardom in the United States in the TV comedy series “Modern Family,” will be honored during the sixth edition of the beneficent Los Angeles Golf Classic, a tourney to be held June 8 at Burbank in Los Angeles County.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the SAG Foundation. This group does so much work supporting and educating the entertainment community and also the general public,” Vergara said.

“I know how hard it can be to get work in this town and I’m grateful that the SAG Foundation exists to help those who are struggling,” she said.

“Sofia’s support for our programs, commitment to children’s literacy and generous charitable giving embody the spirit of this award,” SAG Foundation president JoBeth Williams said.

The organization expects more than 125 actors and executives in the entertainment industry to take part in the SAG golf tourney, including Andy Garcia, Joe Mantegna, Ron Perlman, Joe Pesci, Michael Peña and Mark Paul Gosselaar.

Since 1985, the SAG Foundation has provided more than $17 million in financial aid and medical assistance, along with $6 million in scholarships, to members of the SAG-AFTRA union and their dependents.
