Position Summary

As a part of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Performers Programs, which includes Casting Access, Conversations, The Business, and the On-Camera Lab, our Voiceover Programs help performers develop and expand their careers in voiceover. We offer a variety of weekly voiceover classes led by professionals throughout the industry and by members of our voiceover staff.  We are currently looking to add an Audio Engineer to our VO Lab in New York. A background in directing and/or teaching acting (voiceover, theatrical, on-camera) that enhances the acting skills of performers is vital to this position. Additionally, experience working with audio recording software and audio editors, such as Pro Tools, Twisted Wave, Audacity, Logic, and Reaper is also a plus. Technical experience is strongly preferred but we are willing to train the right candidate on the technical aspects of the position.

The engineer will serve as an audio engineer for booth sessions with professional actors and lead classes in person, as well as online via Zoom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Main Booth Engineer (In-Person) and Online (Remotely)

  • Record and coach actors during voiceover sessions and auditions.
  • Assist voice-over actors with VO-related questions through our online help desk.
  • Teach voiceover actors audio recording and editing procedures when needed.
  • Help design new voiceover classes for the VO Lab program.
  • Lead core VO Lab classes remotely and in-person.

Requirements and Preferences

  • Represent the SAG-AFTRA Foundation with a clear understanding of the Lab’s mission, usage policies, and outlined goals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with voiceover actors at varied levels of ability.
  • Establish good rapport with SAG-AFTRA Foundation staff and guests of the VO Lab.
  • Provide equipment recommendations to voiceover actors when consulted.
  • Manage inventory of the Voiceover Lab’s essential studio assets.
  • Stay informed of new developments in audio software/hardware and work with the Voiceover Lab Administrator to integrate them into the Voiceover Lab, if needed.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality as determined by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.

Technical Requirements

Hardware

  • Experience with audio interfaces, preamps, microphones, and audio hardware.
  • Mixing basics (channels, sends, aux, master fader, control room, preamps).
  • Recording basics (gain staging, EQ, compression).
  • Familiarity with storage options (hard drives, flash drives, cloud technologies).
  • Understanding of microphone types (dynamic, condenser, and USB) and polarity patterns.
  • Aware of connection types (Thunderbolt, USB) and display types (HDMI, DVI, VGA, DisplayPort).

Software

  • Pro Tools 12
  • Twisted Wave, Audacity, Reaper
  • Knowledge of Logic is a plus
  • Mac OS and iOS
  • Zoom
  • Skype
  • Source-Connect

Salary/Benefits

$25 – $30 per hour. Benefits include a 401K retirement plan; escalating vacation; paid sick, personal days, and holidays; and health benefits for employees including medical, dental, vision, flex spending accounts, employee assistance program, and life and long-term disability insurance.
