San Francisco BookPALS partners with Project Read

March 26, 2015

San Francisco BookPALS continue to partner with Project Read, the adult literacy program of the San Francisco Public Library’s Bridge at Main. At the annual event, BookPALS read a play to the monthly Wednesday Night Reader’s Club. The Reader’s Club, a group that includes the learners and the tutors, enjoyed the reader’s theater-style performance of Tennessee Williams’ iconic play The Glass Menangerie.

The BookPAL reading is top notch, but the most memorable part of the evening is the discussion of the play. BookPALS and the Reader’s Club engaged in a lively debate about the motivation and actions of the characters, especially Amanda. There was a variety of perspectives regarding what Amanda could of and should of done.

Thank you to Brian Castagne of Project Read and the wonderful staff at Project Read and the Bridge at Main. Special thanks to the volunteers who reminded us of William’s great language and the everlasting appeal of the Wingfield family and the gentleman. Best to Candy, Cheryl, Dan, David, Joan, Nancy and Malcolm.
