March 5, 2022

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 5, 2022) – The SAG-AFTRA Foundation mourns the loss and pays tribute to the legacy of its former President, American film, television and stage actor Mitchell Ryan.

Best known for his roles in Dark Shadows, Lethal Weapon, and Dharma and Greg, during his celebrated 60-year career, it is Ryan’s lesser known, leading role as President of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation which he played with steadfast commitment and integrity.

Serving as President of the SAG Foundation from 1999 – 2008, Ryan helped to develop the Foundation’s performers’ programs, including its highly popular and beloved Casting Access and Conversations programs, which continue to educate and serve tens of thousands of SAG-AFTRA performers every year.

“Considered an actor’s actor by his brethren and his former Board Members, Mitchell Ryan made a significant contribution at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation that is undeniable. We are grateful and honored to carry on his legacy,” says Cyd Wilson, Executive Director of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.

Ryan was succeeded by actor JoBeth Williams from 2008 – 2019. At present, actor Courtney B. Vance serves as President of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
